Lew Pollack (1895-1946) was a famous songwriter and composer who, years later, ended up in the Songwriter's Hall of Fame. His earliest compositions date from 1914; one from that year has been an enduring hit and jazz favorite, "That's a Plenty", which started out as a rag and one-step. "High Stepper Rag" is also a rag and one-step and while not as famous is also a well-written dance piece. Pollack was from New York City and his song output in the 1920s and 30s was his most notable achievement. …
